What is a Partial Hospitalization Program?
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is typically recommended for individuals with severe symptoms of addiction. The most important part of partial hospitalization is stabilizing any symptoms and overall reducing substance use. At Liberty Wellness, we mainly deal with post-acute withdrawal symptoms that are the result of alcohol, opioids, and other addictions.
Partial hospitalization is still considered an outpatient program, as they do not require a full-time stay at our facility. Partial hospitalization programs are designed to be just as intense and effective as an inpatient program, without the commitment of a long term stay.
Typically, individuals stay at our partial hospitalization program for up to 5-6 hours a day and up to 6 days per week.
Types of Partial Hospitalization Program Treatments
PHP’s include many different services, some of them are:
- Individual therapy
- Group therapy
- Meetings with family members
- Medical services
- Treatment of co-occurring disorders
- Drug screenings
- Management of medication
Generally, PHP’s are good for people who are experiencing the following:
- Are in need of intensive care but not 24/7 care
- Have a difficult time continuing treatment
- Have a co-occuring mental health disorder
- Have already completed an outpatient program but feel as if they are at risk of a relapse
Am I Eligible For PHP?
Deciding to seek medical treatment for addiction is a big step, but navigating the different levels of care can be difficult. Partial hospitalization programs are typically recommended for individuals that meet the following criteria:
- Difficulty functioning in the workplace, school, or any other occupation
- Medically stable
- Has a support system at home
- The individual is motivated to seek treatment
- Experiencing co-occurring disorders, but not at imminent risk for suicide or harm to others
- Must be 18 years of age or older
What To Expect
Our PHP program begins with an interview to diagnose individuals which is performed by our licensed professionals. Following this, clients will get their medical history reviewed and a physical would be performed. Clients will also be examined for any mental health conditions that could lead to further treatment options.
Our staff will then perform a drug and alcohol screening to make sure that the individual is completely clean of any drugs or alcohol. Our team of medical and mental health providers will then develop a personalized treatment plan based off of the information gathered throughout this process, which will be reviewed with the clients family and themselves to see if they have any other suggestions or concerns.
The time period that clients stay for will vary depending on their progress made, which can be anywhere from a few weeks to months. Clients can stay for around 4-6 hours each day for up to 7 days per week.
Clients are continually supervised by our staff, and each day at Liberty Wellness’s PHP includes:
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Morning check-ins, and daily schedule review
- Therapeutic & clinical groups
- Individualized daily sessions
- Wellness activities/gym
- AA/NA meetings
- 12-step program, identifying and working with sponsors, drug refusal training
